The best thing I ever did was invest in a zone control system.
- My husband and I don’t share a bedroom.
He loves having AC and air blasting right on him. He also uses a CPAP to sleep and is a light sleeper. For me I enjoy the heat while I sleep. I burrow under thick comforters and blankets. I also move around a bunch and I am a very light sleeper. It made sense to not share a room. It also made sense to get our own HVAC systems. Technically it is one system that has multiple indoor air handlers and thermostats. I even added air handlers to the kitchen, living room, and extra bedroom, laundry room and office. The reason is that I wanted to be able to save money. I don’t bother heating and cooling the spare bedroom, laundry room, and office. On rare occasions I will turn on their systems and leave them for an hour. It costs me hardly any money and it ensures no mildew forms in the areas. It makes sense not to have your house fully heated and cooled. It also makes sense that not every room should be the same temperature. The sun moves and makes certain rooms warmer than others. In the summer when I use the oven I want more AC than my husband in the living room does. It saves us energy and stops the fighting. We can decide our own areas of heating and cooling. I can’t imagine going back to a central HVAC unit with only a single thermostat.
