Last year, my husband inherited a huge house in the country from his Aunt Ella, and we decided to live in it.
- It’s not far from where we live now, and we don’t mind the commute.
The house is quite old, but sturdy, my husband says. It has a lot of rooms and windows, hardwood floors and a classic charm, but it needed a little updating before we could move in, especially the HVAC system. The house didn’t have one. Aunt Ella put window air conditioners in the rooms that she frequently used, but that would not work for us at all. We had planned on using most of the rooms and needed heat and air conditioning throughout the house. There was no ductwork and, although I’m sure that there was some way to install it, we didn’t want to go that route. Through our research, we learned about the ductless mini-split air conditioning and heating system. It turns out that they are zone controlled, so we can turn it off in rooms that we aren’t using. I had wondered why I had never heard of ductless mini-splits before and was told by an expert that I had called that until recently, the ductless mini-split was more suited for southern climates, but advances have made it feasible to use them in the colder climate where we live. I was thrilled. The ductless mini-splits fit into any decor I chose. They are quiet, energy efficient, and low maintenance. Before long, we had the ductless mini-splits installed and we were ready to move into our new place.
