My new mic is incredible! I know I sound like a geek, but I have been podcasting for over three years now, and this is the first time I have had a professional quality microphone of my own.

It is very easy to find a quality mic for a good price these days, and that served me well for a long time.

I love podcasting, and I plan on doing it for years, so it was worth investing a few hundred bucks to get something top of the line. It turns out the mic is so good it has led to a few unexpected snags during production. For example, the hum of the air conditioner is much louder on playback than it is in real life. I guess I am just used to the small noises the air conditioning system makes and I tune them out, but the mic records all of them, and it makes for an irritating background to the show. Of course I turn off the thermostat when I record now, but that also presents a problem. The room I use for my recording studio is a converted garage with cinderblock walls and no insulation, so with my equipment and my body heat, it really needs some air conditioning to keep it comfortable. Over the course of an hour-long record session the temps will rise by ten full degrees in here, all because the air conditioning is the only thing keeping that temperature balanced. I am still not sure how to fix this air conditioning/microphone problem, but I am working on it.
