Before you call up your local heating and cooling company and pay them an exorbitant amount of money for an A/C repair appointment, make sure that you check out your thermostat unit first.
The last time that my air conditioning stopped working, I thought that it was just something terrible going on with the HVAC unit. I have had lots of trouble in the past with my heating and cooling system, and so I immediately jumped to the worst case scenario this time too. It turned out that I shouldn’t have, though! I called my local HVAC company and scheduled a time for them to come and work on my air conditioner. It was right in the middle of the summer, and it was way hotter than usual. I remember sitting there dripping with sweat as I waited for the HVAC maintenance truck to come rolling into the driveway. Well, when they finally arrived, I was ecstatic to see them. I couldn’t wait for them to fix the A/C so I could start cooling off again. For some reason, it didn’t take the HVAC technicians very long to get the cold air blowing through the air vents once again. When I asked them what the trouble had been this time, they told me that I just needed a new battery installed in my thermostat unit. That was the most expensive battery placement in history! I felt so stupid after that!
