As we get older and life starts winding down, we sometimes think about things we should have done different.
This was my case when i started to think about the career choice I made.
I am a teacher at a college for English. However, this was not my true passion. I had always wanted to work in the heating and air conditioning industry. Heating and air conditioning systems always fascinated me since I was a teenager and when my grandfather was an HVAC specialist. He taught me a lot of things growing up. I should have gone to HVAC school instead of college to become a teacher. But something made me not do it. I guess it was the fear of not getting hired to be a certified heating and cooling specialist. At the time, getting a job working at a local HVAC company was hard. There were not too many job openings because most heating and air conditioning companies are pretty tight niche. So I wasn’t sure, and I picked the safest route which was becoming a college level English teacher. If I could go back in time and change things, I would make myself take the risk of being jobless for a little and go to heating and air conditioning school to get my certification to become an HVAC specialist. But of course we can’t turn back time. So maybe when I retire from teaching in a few months I will go back to school and do independent HVAC work on the side after getting my certification!
