My dad passed away 5 years ago and my mom has been slowly deteriorating since then.
I’ve been worried about her so I have been visiting a lot more.
I used to go to my mom’s house every Sunday and we would have dinner and play games over watch tv, but now I go to my mom’s house three times a week. One day my mom was sitting in her robe at 3:00 in the afternoon and she thought it was still the morning. She was waiting for my dad to bring breakfast. I reminded my mom that my dad was gone for 5 years and she started to cry. That’s when I knew it was time to bring my mom to my house to live. My husband understood why we needed to bring my mom to the house and he helped make sure that my mom would be comfortable. He paid a carpenter and contractor to turn the spare room into a handicap accessible area and we also added a bathroom. It was quite an expense, but I wanted my mom to be happy and safe. We also added a ductless heating and AC unit to the room. The ductless heating and AC unit was very affordable and we got to choose from a lot of colors that matched the rest of the room. My mom can control the heat and the air conditioning and she can make the room any temperature that she wants. As long as she is in her space, everything will be exactly as she would like.
