I think it was just about this time last year when I had a long overdue discussion with my wife. The summer heat and humidity were bearing down on us and the air conditioning was running during the day and night providing HVAC cooling. So yea, it was right about this time last year that I had to tell my wife that I wasn’t traveling for Christmas anymore. Whenever I have conversations like this with my wife, I like to be sure that she has the time, space and comfort to discuss it. Normally, that has been later in the evening when we’re alone in the air conditioning of the house and the kids are either in bed or in their rooms. I wasn’t so sure what to expect when I laid it out to her that I just had had enough of leaving our perfect weather at Christmas. For the past 19 Christmas days, we’ve been inside the sweltering HVAC heating of her parent’s house. And I made the best of it each year. But the kids are now in their teens and they want to be with friends on Christmas break. And I wanted to be inside my own house on Christmas day. My wife was initially sort of shocked with my feelings. But the more we talked about it, the more she saw the truth. It was time to give up sweating it out at the in laws place. This year was great. The in laws came to us and I got to set the thermostat to a comfortable setting and enjoy the holiday in my own house and its quality heating and air.
