A few years back, I recall reading about an HVAC technician that fell from a 10 story building while attempting a repair.

The man had never tried to repair an HVAC system that high up without a harness.

The news article stated that he had done similar repairs on the building in the past. On the morning of the incident, I arrived at work at his usual time ready for another ordinary day of HVAC repair. Little did he know, this would be his last day on the planet. When the HVAC technician saw the location of the building in need of maintenance, he took the job with no question asked. This specific building had been vacant up to about 10 years ago when a big corporation purchased it to run their headquarters. He had spent countless hours working on the building’s HVAC system when the building first opened. He knew his way around the building pretty well and if he was ever confused, he knew the right people to talk to. They all knew him as the “AC guy”. On the morning of his death, there had been a heavy snowfall the night before. He knew that it was risky climbing on the roof to repair the HVAC. It happened so quickly that his co workers did not even notice that he wasn’t around until they heard the news from some security guards on the ground floor. Greg fell 10 stories to his death fixing an HVAC system.
