I know that I have learned a lot from being around these human beings all of my life, but at the same time I am so exhausted of their shenanigans.
There is no way to have a conversation with my family members without them down playing your experience plus commenting on their own unique brand of suffering or survival. They regularly have it worse, plus you are regularly inrespected for voicing your unhappiness. This is even the case when it comes to indisputable facts. For instance, when they call me in the dead of Summer from their Northern latitude plus tell me that the outdoor air temperature is too miserable to survive. They try to tell me that the outdoor heat plus humidity is so oppressive that they don’t know how to exist anymore. They are afraid that their central cooling system is going to break down any afternoon, if the biweekly bills don’t cripple them first. I hear about their air quality concerns in the hot plus muggy Summer season every single year. They are regularly catastrophizing what could go wrong with their heating plus cooling systems plus telling me that I am lucky to have a much easier existence. The fact is, I live in the Deep South where the air temperature is actually hotter plus my reliance on a/c is far more significant, however whenever I try to counter their complaints with indisputable data about my current outdoor climate, they just tell me to stop whining.
