I’m a real sucker for my dog, Jake. Everything about him is lovable, and everyone thinks so. He’s not some little designer lap dog or anything like that, in fact he’s a big black mutt and we have no idea what breeds he is, but his personality is second to none. He’s loyal and sweet and cuddly, every moment of the day. He never wants to be away from his people, so he follows me from room to room when we’re at home, and sometimes I feel bad about it. You see, he always lays in the rooms that are most heavily air conditioned, and often he looks cold while he’s doing so. I’m usually in the living room or the bedroom, both of which have big window air conditioning units. He follows me there, and is often directly in front of the air vents from the AC units. I look over at him every once in a while to notice that he’s all curled up and huddled close to any soft blankets he can find. I can only assume that he’s just catching too much of a chill from the overabundant AC, which makes me feel guilty. I try to cover him up with blankets, but he crawls out from underneath them promptly. I haven’t gone so far as to get him a coat or sweater to combat the cooling system, because I think he’s too big and tough for that ninny nonsense. Still, I feel like a bad pet parent for all the chilly temperatures he endures to be by my side.
