Lately the weather in my region has been pretty brutal.
- This is nothing new, because we experience the extreme highs and lows of every season, but this summer has been particularly hot from the get-go.
Every day it’s been about 90 degrees, with extreme humidity to boot. It’s abnormal to be so miserable before we even hit July, so everyone has been complaining quite a bit. No one has it as bad as the outdoor construction workers all over town, though, and they make me feel extremely fortunate to work in the comfort of air conditioning all day long. I have several jobs, and all of them afford me the luxury of being indoors with direct control over a heating and cooling unit. I can crank up my air conditioning at home while I write little stories and rate websites, and even turn on extra fans when I feel like I’m just not getting enough ventilation. Sometimes I actually overdo it and get too cold, at which point I have to go outside to feel the hot air temperature for relief. Can you imagine what a preposterous statement that must be to the poor construction workers who are trapped outdoors in the pounding sun’s heat all day long? I bet they are desperate for a lick of AC, and would kill to switch positions with me. Here I am, watching the sun rise and set while I sit directly in front of an AC unit, drinking hot tea and coffee, while some people have no way to escape from the direct rays overhead. Sometimes life is good.
