When you wake up in the south, the last thing you want to feel is hot and humid.

Most likely, if you awaken to heat, there is a problem with your air conditioning.

I do not know a single person who does not have air conditioning, although when I was a kid, there were still some folks who had not lived with a/c in their homes. My daughter’s friend, who is newly married, just bought a house farther south, and although it has air conditioning, it doesn not have central air conditioning. That’s right, she bought a house for $250,000 that only has a window air conditioner. A single window air conditioner. I find that shocking! But still, at least it has that. I think there is quite a disparity in HVAC units in use in this country right now. When I was a kid, there were two kinds of air conditioning – a window a/c unit or central heating and cooling. Nowadays, there are still houses with window a/c units, as I have learned thanks to my daughter’s friend, all the way up through HVAC with zone control and sensors to turn the heating and cooling off on their own. We now have smart thermostats so it takes practically no effort to keep your house at the perfect temperature for your family at every moment of the day. We even have those sort of updated and better window a/c units known as mini split air conditioners. My friend has one of those in her house, in the back area where the other owners added on to the house.
