While the kids were out of school during the coronavirus shutdowns, the school administration decided to totally redo the HVAC systems in the entire district. I wasn’t sure it was such a good idea at first. I mean, I feel like they could have been allocating their money elsewhere and it would have been just as good, but I’m not in charge so that doesn’t matter. Anyway, my kids kept telling me how terrible the indoor air quality in the school building was, so maybe they needed a new HVAC system after all. They said that when they first went back to class at the end of the summer, the air conditioning in the classrooms was practically non-existent and that it was really hard to stay awake in class after lunch in the afternoons. Also, I remember back in the winter when my son would come home from school chilled to the bone because he said that the heating system in the math building was completely shut down and his last class was like being in a walk-in freezer. So I guess there really was proof that the school buildings needed new HVAC systems and ductwork. I know that it was a huge, expensive project. I just hope that this coming year when the kids go back to school that the indoor air quality in the buildings is much better. I would hate to think that the administration spent so much money on something that wasn’t worth it after all. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
