When I moved into my home and there was a boiler system, I wasn’t pleased.

The boiler was big, ugly and rusted.

I figured it would die shortly after I moved in and I wasn’t upset by that fact at all. I saved a whole bunch of money ready to invest in a gas furnace for when the boiler stopped heating. The system didn’t quit though. The entire winter the boiler system reliably heated my home. I additionally realized that piping was hooked up to the boiler and it was a snowmelt system for the driveway. I just had to remember to turn it on and then there would be no snow on the driveway and my car would feel naturally heated in the morning. I saved so much time with that neat feature. After winter went and the hot season arrived, I debated on updating it. The boiler took all the basement space and I wanted some. I decided to wait until it died and in the meantime, do other projects. Well it is going on ten years and I still have a boiler system in the home. I have gotten used to storing things elsewhere since the basement is the boiler’s home. I also have gotten accustomed to baseboard heating and a snowmelt system. I have changed my mind. If the boiler system dies, I will definitely replace it with another one. It is too sturdy and reliable of a system. I looked online and a boiler can live over 50 years though. So I am not thinking it will be anytime soon.
