My grandma and I are very close.
During my childhood, I spent most of my time at her house.
My grandpa passed away when I was very young so I don’t have many memories of him. But, I knew he was a handyman and never hired anyone to do anything for him. If there was a problem, he would fix it himself. But, after he passed away, my grandma was left with all the problems to get fixed on her own. When I got older, I took it upon myself to make a visit to her once a week. Last week when I showed up at her house, it was extremely hot inside her condo. I guess her HVAC system had gone out and she didn’t know what to do. I guess the heat from our hot southern climate didn’t bother her too much. But, if it was me, I would have gone crazy without having a working heating and cooling system. I decided to call our local HVAC company to come out and inspect the system. Turns out, that the system needed replaced. It was very old and had not been regularly serviced for a long time, so it finally broke down. The HVAC system was 25 years old. My grandpa is the one who installed it before he passed away, and it’s been there ever since. My grandma’s birthday was coming up, so I figured I would pay for the new heating and cooling unit and pay for the HVAC technician to remove the old unit and install the new unit. Luckily, I was able to get a good deal and give my grandma an amazing birthday gift. She was so happy that I was able to do this for her, especially since she would not be able to spare the expense. She lived on a fixed income and was barely getting by as it was. I also had her thermostat upgraded. This new thermostat would be easier for my grandma to read and operate. It was much more simple and the numbers were larger on the control display. I was happy to be able to help my grandma.
