I have had a preventative maintenance plan for my HVAC system for the last couple of years.
It’s one of those things that I added on to my account when I first bought my new HVAC system.
I was in the middle of upgrading a lot of things around my house. I bought new appliances for the kitchen, some new light fixtures for outside, and then I went completely crazy off my budget and bought a new furnace and central air conditioning system, too. Whenever I was paying for it, I remember the person at the counter asking me if I wanted to add on the HVAC maintenance plan and at that point, I was thinking that I might as well go ahead. At that point, I was already spending so much money that a few hundred more didn’t really seem like it was going to make that much of a difference in the long run. However, so far, I haven’t really had to use the preventative maintenance plan much at all. But maybe that’s actually the whole point in having it. I mean, the HVAC technicians come out and change the air filters once in a while and they change out the batteries in the thermostat, but so far, that’s all that I have seen them do. Maybe they are doing other things too that I don’t know about but for several hundred dollars, I feel like I could be changing my own air filters and batteries. I guess it depends on the unseen things that they are doing to service my HVAC equipment.
