My neighbor was going out of town on vacation and wanted me to watch her house for her and tend to her dogs.

I agreed to do it because I work from home so I would be home all day and could just walk over anytime. Plus, I could use the extra money that she was paying me. She left for vacation the following day. That afternoon, I went to her house to take the dogs on their evening walk and check on things in the house. When I arrived in her house, it felt like I was in the inside of an oven. It was so hot. I checked the thermostat and it read that it was 86 degrees inside and it said the air conditioning was on but It wasn’t running. I went over to the air conditioning unit and realized the coils were frozen.I didn’t want to disturb my neighbor on her vacation. So, I just took it into my own hands to fix the situation. I first turned the unit off by flipping the electrical breaker so the ice would melt. In the meantime, I took the dogs to my house. The next day, once all the ice was gone and melted, I dried off the evaporator coils. Once the coils were dry, I turned the system back on and it was working great. However, the cause of the AC freezing up was necessary to figure out. I started by opening the filter compartment, and quickly realized the cause of the unit was freezing. The filter looked like it hadn’t been changed in a year. It was clogged with so much debris, this was definitely the cause of the air conditioning unit freezing up. I Went to the home store and purchased a new filter and installed it myself. I finally could bring the dogs back to her house. I told her about it when she got back and she was so thankful that I solved the problem on my own. She thanked me and paid me extra for the hassle and reimbursed me for the filter.
