In cleaning all of this, we’re able to keep our air clean while also eliminating the need for our air conditioner to work harder to push the air out.
We have a really old HVAC system and it’s on the brink of dying. My husband and I aren’t ready to splurge on a new air conditioner yet, but the air conditioning unit is really inefficient. Whenever we run it, it makes a lot of loud noises and it uses a lot of energy to cool our whole house. We try not to run our air conditioning at all, but there are some days that are too hot not to run it. The two of us are planning on purchasing a new air conditioner at the end of the summer season when the prices aren’t so high, so until then, we’ve been trying different tips and tricks to keep everything running smoothly and more efficiently. The first thing we did was trim all the grass an debri around the outdoor condenser unit. This allows the condenser unit to breathe freely and it eliminates the chance of anything getting stuck in it. The second thing we did was wash the air vents and clean the inside of the ductwork. In cleaning all of this, we’re able to keep our air clean while also eliminating the need for our air conditioner to work harder to push the air out. Lastly, my husband and I have been replacing the air filter every two months. In our minds, if we can keep the air filter free of congestion then our air conditioner won’t have to run quite as hard. Since we’ve started doing this, we’ve noticed a slight decrease in our utility bills.
