My parents live in an older home and there are some features that really irritate me.

For starters, I hate how squeaky the floors are.

Over the years, I’ve learned which floorboards make the most noise and how to maneuver around them. Unless they replace the subfloor and install new hardwoods, the floors are going to remain squeaky. The second thing that bothers me about my parents house is the old HVAC system. The HVAC system is at least 13 years old and it acts like it too. Whenever the furnace or air conditioner runs, you can hear a loud humming noise and it sounds like it’s working really hard to cool the house. When I snuck a glance at the utility bill on the counter, I couldn’t believe the amount of money my parents were spending on heat and air alone! Along with the HVAC system, I despise my parent’s thermostat. It’s just as old as the HVAC system, if not older, and it’s a dial. The temperature you set the thermostat to is up on the top of the dial, and the temperature it actually is inside is on the bottom. Modern thermostats have a screen that makes it easy to read and adjust the temperature settings. The dial thermostat is really sensitive and it’s almost impossible to read. If I try to change the temperature in the middle of the night, I have to bring a flashlight just to light it up! If I have a hard time seeing it, there’s no telling how difficult it is for my parents to see it.
