It’s been nearly a two year ordeal.

Well, maybe ordeal is too big a word.

We’ve been dealing with getting our HVAC equipment replaced for nearly two years. It started 22 months ago when the HVAC technician knocked on the door. He was there to do the heating maintenance. I figured the HVAC professional was simply letting us know he was done. But in fact, he was letting us know that the heating and cooling equipment was about done. While I was caught off guard a bit since there really hadn’t been any problems, it wasn’t a shock given the age of the HVAC unit. The HVAC technician let us know that we could expect utility costs to spike soon and that we should get an HVAC replacement plan together sooner, rather than later. I really appreciate this sort of heads up when it comes to spending thousands of dollars. We started saving immediately for a new heat pump. We lucked out because the heat pump went almost a full year before the utility costs did indeed spike. But we had also tried to really lighten the load on the HVAC equipment so we had time to save for the HVAC replacement. Once we saw the heating and cooling cost spike, we contacted the HVAC contractor. He came out to do the home inspection and help us figure out what our next generation of heat pump would be. It was very helpful and we were able to pick out a model and get it ordered. The heat pump made it through the winter. But that’s not much of a feat around here considering we need the heater like maybe a dozen or more times during our mild winter. But now, we have an installation date and we’re excited.
